Interesantno je da EDA odgovori takođe koreliraju sa introverzijom i ekstroverzijom. Studija iz 1991. je pokazala da introverti snažnije reaguju na negativnu indukciju raspoloženja, dok introverti snažnije reaguju na pozitivnu indukciju raspoloženja. 3  Osim toga, elektrodermalnom aktivnost može pomoći otkriti agresivnim i nasilnim tendencijama ponašanje kada je u kombinaciji s praćenje otkucaja srca. 4

 

Obrada pažnje

 

Pored emocija, još jedna kognitivna situacija koju elektrodermalna aktivnost može pomoći u određivanju je pažnja. Na primer, najnovija istraživanja pokazuju da izvođenje mentalno zahtjevnih zadataka povećava elektrodermalni odgovor. 5  Prethodna istraživanja su također otkrili da tonik provodljivost kože, jedna od dvije komponente elektrodermalne odgovor, mijenja “, uglavnom u funkciji kognitivne aktivnosti.” 6

Utvrđivanje dubine transa pomaže hipnotizerima da poboljšaju iskustvo i rezultate u terapijskim i eksperimentalnim postavkama. Iako hipnotizer može da postavi pitanja o predmetu kako bi se utvrdila dubina transa i nivo sugestibilnosti, merenja elektrodermalne aktivnosti pružaju trenutniju i tačniju povratnu informaciju.

 

Jedna studija sugeriše da u fazi indukcije hipnoze, ljudi sa visokim hipnotizacijama doživljavaju pomak na desnu stranu elektrodermalne dominacije, dok ljudi sa niskim hipnotizacijom doživljavaju pomak lijeve strane. 7  Druga studija sprovedena u 1960-ih našao visoko pozitivnu korelaciju između bazalnog otpora kože i dubinu hipnotičkog stanja. 8

 

Ove i druge slične studije pokazuju da elektrodermalna aktivnost ne samo da može biti korisna u praksi već i za bolje razumijevanje onoga što se događa u mozgu tokom hipnotičkih stanja. Na primer, korelacija između provodljivosti kože i hipnotičkih stanja može objasniti zašto je hipnoza efikasna u lečenju poremećaja koji su usko povezani sa simpatičkim nervnim sistemom. 9

 

Detekcija napadaja

What Can Electrodermal Activity Measurements Tell You?

 

Electricity is everywhere. It’s in the air, it’s deep inside the earth, and it’s even in our bodies. Our cells conduct electrical currents, and electricity is needed for the body and the brain to communicate.

The skin also conducts electricity in the body. Thanks to scientific advancements, variations in the electrical characteristics of the skin can be measured. This is called electrodermal activity (EDA).

Also known as skin conductance, electrodermal response (EDR), psychogalvanic reflex (PGR), and galvanic skin response (GSR), measurements of electrodermal activity may tell us a variety of things about the state of the body, including the following.

Emotional states

Perhaps the most well-known application of electrodermal activity testing is determining emotional states of the mind. Like other applications of EDA, emotional reactions can be observed from the body’s response to a stimulus. A word, image, sound, or other stimulus can illicit an emotional response, which manifests as a change in the electrical conductivity of the skin.

Studies have confirmed that electrodermal activity does indeed correlate to emotional states. For example, one study conducted in the 1980s found that subjects who had high scores on an anxiety test had lower skin conductance levels and lower skin conductance response amplitudes compared to subjects with low anxiety.1 Similarly, a 2018 study found that skin conductance levels were lower for depressive subjects compared non-depressed subjects.2

Interestingly, EDA responses also correlate to introversion and extroversion. A 1991 study found that introverts react more strongly to negative mood induction, while introverts react more strongly to positive mood induction.3 Additionally, electrodermal activity may help detect aggressive and violent behavior tendencies when combined with heart-rate monitoring.4

Attentional processing

In addition to emotions, another cognitive state that electrodermal activity can help determine is attention. For instance, recent research shows that the performance of mentally demanding tasks increases electrodermal response.5 Previous research has also found that tonic skin conductance, one of the two components of electrodermal response, changes “mainly as a function of cognitive activity.”6

It’s clear from these and other studies that electrodermal activity varies depending on the components and parts of the brain that are being engaged. We can also observe from these measurements that high-stress individuals may have more difficulty accomplishing complex cognitive tasks that are also highly stressful.

Depth of hypnotic trance

Establishing the depth of a trance helps hypnotists improve experience and outcomes in therapeutic and experimental settings. Although a hypnotist can ask a subject questions to help determine trance depth and level of suggestibility, electrodermal activity measurements provide more immediate, accurate feedback.

One study suggests that during the induction stage of hypnosis, highly hypnotizable people experience a shift to right-sided electrodermal dominance, while low hypnotizable people experience a left-sided shift.7 Another study conducted in the 1960s found a high positive correlation between basal skin resistance and the depth of hypnotic states.8

These and other similar studies show that electrodermal activity can not only be useful in practice but also for better understanding what’s happening in the brain during hypnotic states. For example, the correlation between skin conductance and hypnotic states may explain why hypnosis is effective for treating disorders strongly related to the sympathetic nervous system.9

Seizure detection

If you’ve lived with someone who is prone to seizures, you know that they can be difficult to detect and respond to in a timely manner. Electrodermal activity, however, can be used to help accurately detect seizures. Better yet, devices that measure electrodermal activity are more practical and cost-efficient than electroencephalography (EEG) and video monitoring.

Research has shown that accelerometry with EDA measurement greatly improve the accuracy of seizure detection.10 Wristbands such as the Embrace2 device incorporate these two measurements along with an app that notifies loved ones when help is needed. These devices can be invaluable for the roughly 50 million people worldwide who suffer from epilepsy.11

Physical performance

One area where electrodermal activity is being utilized more and more frequently is physical performance. EDA measurements give athletes, coaches, and trainers insights into the psychophysiological aspects of performance. This knowledge can then be used to make an athlete more successful in their sport.

In the case of physical performance, electrodermal activity monitoring is often combined with electromyography (EMG) and electrocardiography (ECG). Together, these monitoring methods can lead to improved psychological interventions, such as relaxation and attentional strategies. In turn, these interventions can improve motor functions and make athletes more capable of achieving peak performance.12

Electrodermal activity monitoring can also provide an athlete with information related to their stress load. This information can help the athlete better understand the sources of their stress and how that stress impacts their performance.13

Vulnerability to schizophrenia

It’s estimated that more than 50 million people worldwide suffer from schizophrenia. The majority of those who don’t receive treatment are not aware that they have this disorder. Electrodermal activity can assist in properly diagnosing these individuals.

Research indicates that schizophrenics have an over-aroused electrodermal response, including elevated skin conductance level and frequent non-specific skin conductance responses.14 A hyperactive responder pattern has also been found to correlate to poor outcomes of acute schizophrenic episodes, as well as increased risk of schizophrenia in children.15

Did you know that electrodermal activity measurements are a key component of polygraph machines, better known as lie detectors? Combining EDA with blood pressure, pulse, and respiration monitoring, the polygraph is a powerful tool for detecting deception.

Research shows that electrodermal activity increases when the behavior inhibition system (BIS) is activated.16 It is believed that the BIS responds to threats and punishments by means of avoidance behavior. Thus, an increase in electrodermal activity may indicate that the subject is trying to deceive in order to avoid punishment.

Studies have shown that EDA combined with cardiovascular and respiratory measures are effective at determining whether a person is telling the truth or lying.17 A study in 1978, for example, revealed significant discrimination between guilty and innocent prisoners in a mock crime.18

Biological coherence to wellness options

People often choose supplements and other wellness options based on limited information. But electrodermal activity measurements can help you determine which products and options your body prefers, or your biological coherence. This takes the guesswork out of wellness decisions because options are presented to the body and the body responds objectively.

Similar to lie detector testing, biological coherence is determined by first establishing a baseline galvanic skin response measurement. Then, the changes in galvanic skin response are measured as digital signatures representing biomarkers in the body and external factors are introduced. Finally, digital signatures of wellness products and other options can be introduced to the body and we can see which ones are the most biologically coherent in relation to the significant biomarker responses. This is how a basic ZYTO biocommunication scan, or bioscan, works.

When I started my practice in Wisconsin 7 years ago, nobody knew who I was or what I did. I had absolutely zero network. I was basically like, “Hi, I’m new here. I do something weird. Can I help you?”

 

But in over 7 years of being in practice, I’ve experienced consistent and continued growth. I did just shy of $50,000 in my first year, and in my second year I broke six figures. This year, I’m projected to do about $800,000.

 

I currently teach fellow practitioners the same systems and strategies I’ve used to attain this growth. So I’m happy to share 4 keys that have helped me create a thriving wellness practice and that can do the same for you. In this post, we’ll take a look at the first two keys that are essential for success: shifting your mindset about money and attracting your ideal clients.

 

Shift your mindset about money

 

The number-one roadblock to a successful practice is that either the practitioner, the client, or both have some kind of block about money. Practitioners tend to give away too much for free or at a discount. They undervalue their knowledge, expertise, experience, and investment in infrastructure and make assumptions about what a client can or won’t pay.

Money is to your wellness practice what water is to the body. It is the nutrient that you die the fastest without. If you start to look at money as a nutrient that nourishes your practice versus something that you take from your practice, a mindset shift happens when it comes to your pricing, your programs, and everything else.

 

So, the first step to a successful practice is to embrace money as a vital nutrient. I want you to embrace the nutrient and get rid of that whole mindset that money is the root of all evil. Because the healthier your practice is, the more you can help others. You can invest in the infrastructure that you want. You can invest in the front-desk person to help you out so you have more time to see more people. And so on.

 

Once you see money as a way to nourish your practice so you can enjoy your life and develop your dream practice, the universe is going to comply with your vibration. You will begin to find out what I did in my practice—that people are willing to invest if they understand the value of what you can do for them.

Attract your ideal clients

When it comes to the success of your practice, it’s critical that the messages you send are attracting not just any client, but your ideal client.

 

To start attracting ideal clients, I want you to think about someone who you are excited to see and you love to work with. Some characteristics I hear from practitioners consistently is that they show up on time, pay up front, and are willing to change.

 

The following 5 questions will help you get a clear idea of the types of clients you want to serve and how to market your practice to them.

 

  1. Who do you want to serve?
    • What are your favorite types of clients?
    • Do they have a specific condition or specific personality trait?
  2. How do you want to serve?
    • What is it that you love to do?
    • Do you have parts of your practice that you don’t really love?
  3. What makes your heart sing?
    • Does whatever you’re doing fulfill you and your employees?
  4. What are you really good at?
    • Are you awesome at digestion, hormone imbalance, fertility?
  5. What are the outcomes that you create?
    • Better sleep, more energy, better digestion, emotional balance?

Once you have clear answers to these questions, you can start focusing on what you care about, what you are really good at, and market to that. Then you will start attracting people you really love to work with and that really love to work with you.

 

Additionally, remember along the way that whether you are creating marketing materials or talking to clients, you want to always be talking about the amazing outcomes you create. I’ve learned that clients don’t necessarily care about your processes or protocols. What they really care about is the end result, so make sure you are always focusing on that.

In my last post, I discussed the first two keys that helped me build a 6-figure wellness practice. In part 2, we’re taking a look at two more important areas that you need to master to take your business to the next level. They are reputation & referrals, and events & expos. Let’s dive right in!

 

Rock Reputation and Referrals

 

A critical component of a thriving wellness practice is to grow your reputation and get your ideal clients referring other similar clients to you.

 

One of the best ways to do this is to talk about yourself and your credentials in your initial consultation. You’re often asking clients to spend a significant amount of money on you, so you absolutely want to make sure that you’re talking about yourself. Take about 2-5 minutes with each client and talk about:

 

  • Your credentials and qualifications
  • Your journey
  • Numbers if appropriate (how long you’ve been practicing, etc.)
  • A personal experience that creates a connection

So, for example, you could say something like “I’ve been in practice for 5 years. Prior to that I was an accountant but I didn’t find that work fulfilling so I followed my passion and earned a degree in wellness. Since then I’ve helped over 1,000 people on their wellness journey.”

 

Another way to increase your reputation and credibility is to speak at local events. We have 3 communities where I live that offer community education classes, and I teach classes for people who are willing to pay a few bucks to come here. I’m rolling these people into wellness consultations. They’re coming in for wellness services here at my office. So it’s been very effective.

 

Something else I’ve found to be effective is reaching out to influential members in your community. In one of my podcasts, I talked about how I collaborated with, of all things, a financial advisor for a really successful event.

 

And then, lastly, when you have a successful outcome with a client, it’s a perfect opportunity to ask for a testimonial. Taking advantage of those opportunities will help you increase your reputation and spread the word about your practice even more.

Have you ever invested in a wellness event or given a wellness presentation and not gotten any clients from it? I promise you that everyone can answer yes to this question at some point in their career. And over the years, I’ve discovered some great tips about maximizing these events for your practice.

 

First, let’s go over some things you should definitely avoid at events and expos:

 

  • Do not dress too casually (dress one level above the people that are going to be there)
  • Do not sit down (unless you’re running a ZYTO scan)
  • Do not ask “yes or no” questions
  • Do not abandon your booth with a bunch of literature on it
  • Do not give out candy if you’re a wellness professional
  • Do not forget about your vendor neighbors (give them a scan)
  • Do not spend too much time with any one person

As far as the do’s, I would recommend using ZYTO at every event you attend. I’ve used ZYTO technology at live events ever since I got it. I run a basic scan on people who come to my booth. The world of pre-workout supplements can be extremely confusing and overwhelming. Doing the proper due diligence to find out which one is right for you will help you maximize your workouts. This article will break down a some of the most common pre-workout supplements and explain which type of workout they are best for.

 

First, what exactly is a pre-workout supplement? In a nutshell, it is a performance enhancer that is taken before exercising. The intended benefit is extra energy to help maximize gains.

 

Something worth noting is that it is important to be in good health and get a physical from a doctor before consuming any pre-workout supplements or participating in rigorous exercise. Make sure to tell your doctor about any medications you are taking as well, as certain drugs may interact negatively with pre-workout supplements.

 

Creatine

 

Creatine is one of the most popular supplements on the market. If you have spent any time in a gym, chances are you have heard the name creatine. This is an amino acid that occurs naturally in the body as well as in seafood and red meat.

 

Creatine is located primarily in the brain and muscles. It is stored in the muscles where it is readily available to aid the body with extra energy. Stored creatine helps re-synthesize ATP, or adenosine triphosphate, in between muscle contractions.1 ATP is important because it powers all our body movements.

 

Although there’s no way to directly increase the ATP your body produces, a creatine supplement can help the body boost ATP levels. Creatine may also be taken with CoQ10 and B-complex vitamins to further enhance production of ATP in the body.2

 

Because of its short life-span, creatine is most useful for high-intensity, short-term exercises.3

 

BCAAs

 

 

BCAAs, or branched-chain amino acids, act as a form of protein synthesis. This is important when an athlete encounters something called catabolic crisis.4  Our muscles have a stored fuel source called glucose or sugar. After the glucose is depleted, our body then taps into the glycogen reserves. Glycogen is made in the liver and stored in the muscles for precisely this time.

 

The problem for athletes is that once the glycogen is depleted, the body will begin to digest the next most energy efficient morsel: muscle. For individuals working to make more muscle, this is counterproductive. BCAAs aid in the formation of protein which the body will use as fuel instead of muscle. One study showed that when subjects went through a glycogen-depletion protocol, the individuals who consumed BCAAs before exercising had better outcomes than those who drank the placebos.5

 

BCAAs are best for individuals looking to do glycogen-depleting exercises. This could be long-distance running for 90-120 minutes or a 20-minute high-intensity (HIIT) workout, for example.

 

Whey protein

 

A whey protein shake is often considered a post-workout supplement. Recently, there has been evidence of benefits related to using it as a pre-workout supplement. Whey is abundant in leucine and is absorbed quickly, so it aids significantly in muscle protein synthesis.6 Numerous scientific studies show that subjects who consumed whey protein showed significant muscular growth.

 

One such study examined specific exercises such as knee extensions and bench press. In this study, the group who was given the placebo showed less lean muscle growth.7 Another study used axial magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to measure muscle growth. The body composition in those who consumed the whey protein increased more than those who had the placebo.8

 

Because whey offers quick absorption of leucine, it is an excellent supplement for those who are looking to improve their musculature.

 

Beta Alanine

During exercise such as running and cycling, the glucose stored in the muscles is broken down. This glucose is converted into a substance called lactic acid and then lactate. Lactate produces hydrogen ions which cause the muscle to become more acidic by lowering the pH. The buildup of muscle acidity reduces the muscle’s ability to contract and causes fatigue.

 

How does beta-alanine help with the buildup of acid in the muscles? Well, this supplement has been shown to elevate a substance called carnosine.9 Carnosine acts as a buffer against the acid, enabling the muscles to endure longer. This can be very beneficial, as intramuscular acidosis is the leading cause of fatigue during intense exercise.10

 

Although somewhat controversial in the world of professional sports, beta-alanine does not seem to have any detrimental side effects. It is most useful for individuals who are participating in intense exercise lasting a few minutes and those who participate in endurance exercises11such as long-distance running and swimming.

 

Citrulline

 

Citrulline is an amino acid produced by the body. It plays a key role in the urea cycle, which in turn plays an important role in metabolizing nitrogen-containing compounds in the body. Because it has been shown to increase blood flow to body tissues,12 citrulline may help increase muscle performance and endurance.

 

One study of citrulline displays its effectiveness for weight training. In this study, one group was given citrulline malate while the other was given a placebo. Those that took the citrulline did 52.9% more reps and also had 40% less muscle soreness afterwards.13

 

There are two types of supplements you can take to increase citrulline levels in the body: L-citrulline and citrulline malate. Citrulline malate is the better choice of the two if you are looking to increase endurance and boost performance. Citrulline is often paired with L-norvaline in pre-workout supplements to boost nitric oxide levels as well.

 

Choosing the right pre-workout supplements

As opposed to taking pre-workout supplements individually, there are a number of products on the market that combine them together to maximize benefits and increase convenience. However, you should be aware that these products are not regulated, which means they are not tested for safety.

 

Certain dangerous ingredients have been found in a number of pre-workout supplements. In 2011, for example, two US soldiers died after using JACK3D, which contained the banned substance DMAA. The NSF International, an independent public health and safety organization, works to analyze these products and outlaw when needed.14 Until the FDA regulates supplements, however, it is best to analyze the ingredients of anything you ingest.

 

In addition to ensuring that it is free of any banned substances, other things to look for in an all-in-one workout supplement include:

 

  • Contains the right supplements for your type of exercise (muscle building, endurance, etc.)
  • Contains the proper dose of each supplement
  • Does not contain a large amount of caffeine
  • Does not contain artificial sweetener (sucralose)
  • Is free of artificial dyes
  • Is not marked as a “proprietary formula” (this is often a way to hide the ingredients from the consumer)

Don’t forget a healthy diet

 

Lastly, don’t forget that a pre-workout supplement isn’t a replacement for healthy eating! Good carbohydrates, protein, and fat are all great for fueling the body and recovering from exercise. You may find that diet alone is sufficient to fuel your workouts. But if you find that you need a boost to get more from your exercises, the right pre-workout supplements in the right amounts can certainly help.

The immune system is incredibly dynamic, constantly protecting us from harmful influences in the environment in a number of ways. But the immune system doesn’t stop with protection, as it also fights illnesses to restore the body to a balanced state. Looking at the various parts of the immune system and how they communicate and coordinate, it’s easy to see why this is the most complex system in the human body.

 

Immune system structure

 

Structures that participate in the immune response are found throughout the body, from the head down to the lymphatic vessels in the groin area. Key organs and structures in this system include:

 

  • Skin
  • Tonsils
  • Adenoids
  • Thymus
  • Spleen
  • Lymph nodes
  • Lymphatic vessels
  • Bone marrow

 

Additionally, while often dismissed as a useless organ, recent research has shown that the appendix also participates in the immune response, mainly serving a similar function as Peyer’s patches.1

 

Immune system function

 

The immune system has two main parts that carry out different functions. The innate, or non-specific, immune system works to fend off viruses, bacteria, and other pathogens before they cause illness. The other part, the adaptive, or specific, immune system, targets “very specific pathogens that the body has already had contact with.”2

 

The innate immune system consists of physical barriers, chemical barriers, and cellular defenses. The skin and mucous membranes are physical barriers that make up the first line of defense against pathogens. Chemical defenses consist mainly of proteins that inhibit the growth of invading bacteria and help eradicate invading microorganisms, as well as interferons, which prevent many viruses from replicating in the body. Cellular defenses include many different types of white blood cells, which originate in the bone marrow, lymph nodes, spleen, and thymus gland. Together, these cells work to attack and destroy infectious agents as well as the body’s own cells that have been infected.3

The adaptive immune system, on the other hand, consists of specific antigens built to mount a more strategic immune response. Because it takes time for this system to “learn” about a threat and respond accordingly, it is slower to respond to environmental threats than the innate immune system. And while the innate immune system relies on several types of white blood cells, the adaptive system employs only B and T cells, which come from specific types of stem cells in the bone marrow. Unlike the cells in the innate immune system, these specialized cells have the ability to identify specific pathogens.4

 

Lifestyle and your immune system

 

Whether you are fighting off a sickness or want to decrease your chances of getting sick in the first place, there are a number of ways to give your immune system a boost. First and foremost, lifestyle is a key factor. The following lifestyle practices can help you maintain a healthy immune system and reduce your recovery time when you get sick.

 

  • Get 7 or 8 hours of sleep a night
  • Drink plenty of pure water
  • Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables
  • Avoid processed/refined foods and sugar
  • Avoid alcoholic and caffeinated beverages
  • Manage stress
  • Be optimistic5

 

Along with these practices, getting enough exercise is also important for maintaining your immunity. However, you should avoid strenuous exercise when you are sick.

I started Patti’s program only a few weeks ago. I have completed the Navigation session and the Catalyzing Consultations VIP Day. I implemented only a few of Patti’s tools from the toolbox she gave me which brought forth two new clients! I am excited to use everything that she has given me.

I had my third session with Patti yesterday and even though I’ve only used some of the tips she gave me, my outlook on my business growing is bright. In just a one hour session, she was able to lift my spirits, and give me a list of six items to start working on right away.

I’ve had advice given to me from others, and it always seems like the same old same old. Patti’s advice is logical, inspirational and mapped out for me so I do not feel overwhelmed.

Having met and gone through some training programs with Patti, I already knew about her practice and her diverse educational and career background. Being at a crossroad of not quite ready to retire and having a few things I was not willing to let go of yet, I wanted that knowledge, success oriented and the work smarter, not harder ability Patti brings to the table.

Our thirty minute initial contact was amazingly productive. Patti was a wizard at letting me get all my personal and practice interests stated while still keeping our call on track. Within that process of listening, she was able to identify not only what sounded important to me, but what could bring me success. She essentially culled out what sounded like my passions vs. my interests. Next, she outlined some action plans that I could immediately address.

At the end of the call Patti recapped an outline of how we would go forward and then we reviewed what would work best for my goals and my style of working well for success. Last but not least, she forwarded the information she wanted me to look at within 24 hours. Pretty impressive for a 30 minute consult! Thank you Patti.
